Rockpile Construction Co. has been building design-driven custom homes in the Charlottesville area since 2009. From extensive renovations to high-end, custom-built homes, we focus on the structural integrity and quality of our work. We don’t believe in shortcuts. And because we take on just a few projects at a time, we’re able to give each client the personal attention they want and deserve.
Rockpile’s approach to construction management is two-fold: a professional understanding of the highest standards of quality and a recognition of the value of personal involvement. At Rockpile, we believe in dealing fairly with our customers, our employees, our subcontractors, and our suppliers. Bill’s reputation for fairness and honesty, plus his long standing relationships in Charlottesville, means that we subcontract with quality tradespeople we know and trust.
Our philosophy of Built to Last applies to more than just the homes we build, it also applies to our company. Rockpile began in 2009, in the middle of the “great recession” and when the construction industry was at a stand still. Since then, we have weathered many good years and some bad. New homes or renovations can often be the single biggest investment our clients make and stewardship of your time and money is not a responsibility we take lightly. You can expect the same care for your project as Bill has taken for his own company, making smart and informed decisions one at a time.
I originally came to Charlottesville in the mid – 1970s to attend the University of Virginia where I got my degree in City Planning. Like many who have ventured to this beautiful town, I never left.
After graduation, I began work as a carpenter’s helper, fell in love with the challenge of building and four decades later, still look forward to getting up each day and being a builder.
In construction, I’ve been a passive solar designer/builder, a roofing contractor, and a developer/ spec builder before landing as a high end design-driven custom residential builder. I started Rockpile Construction Company in 2009 to finally realize a goal of mine to become involved in a small construction company anchored in the “old school” values of hands on supervision, attention to detail, and quality construction.
I bring over 40 years of experience to Rockpile Construction with a fundamental set of skills; knowledge, patience, attitude, and financial stability, that will see any project through to its successful completion.
In his free time, Bill tries not to injure himself on his mountain bike, likes to garden, and knows his way around a BBQ pit and grill. He’s married to his lovely wife and better half, Jessica Norton, and they currently have a big yellow lab, Winston.
