This two-story building, called the River House for its commanding view of the James River, houses a textile arts studio on the first floor and an office with an attached gym on the second. This classically designed building has a light-filled first floor studio, which Rockpile outfitted with modern birch cabinets and storage bins and large open spaces for worktables in the center of the room.
The second story office has floor-to-ceiling custom oak cabinetry, and reclaimed heart-pine beams and paneling on the ceiling. The tongue-and-groove ceiling was salvaged from an outbuilding taken down on the property. The brick behind each floor’s woodstoves was also salvaged on grounds.
